I’d have just contacted the company and retured the card, but to each their own I guess :-\

Use Free, Open Source Software, as much as possible.
Support The Independents. If they have a donate button, click it and donate. If they ask for a fee for their work, pay it.
Never buy new, as much as possible.
Embrace DYI and The Right to Repair.
